Insider Glimpse into Book Expo America

The Washington Post carries an interesting feature article that lifts the veil of what really goes on at Book Expo America, the country’s largest gathering of book professionals, including publishers, book store buyers and authors. It’s worth a read.

Thanks to MediaBistro for bringing this article to my attention. Allow me to repeat my recommendation that all serious writers should join this essential online community. For more detail, see my previous post about MediaBistro.

Also check out the coverage from Publisher’s Weekly for more information about BEA. Mark your calendar: next year’s BEA will be held May 29-JUne 1 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

ADDENDUM several days later: I’ve just talked to a highly placed exec at one of the major publishers, who thinks this exposition may not be the best one for aspiring authors to attend, at least early in one’s career. She suggests investing the money into one of the major writer’s conferences.
