Visual Thesaurus: An Essential Writer’s Tool

Two days ago, I was stuck, searching for a synonym for an article I was polishing for submission. The solution was only a click away.

A new variety of thesaurus has emerged through the capabilities of the computer and the internet: the visual thesaurus. A word is simply typed into an entry box, and magically out comes an array of synonyms, branching out visually from the obvious and on to the more obscure.

Bookmark this online tool:Â Visual Thesaurus.

For those who know about “widgets,” one can even embed a visual thesaurus on one’s Google Homepage. I’ve done that, so that anytime I do a Google search, I get to see first a randomly selected word and its surrounding array of synonyms, a valuable, enjoyable and free lesson in word power.
