Visual Thesaurus: Invaluable Writer’s Tool

Just two days ago, I was stuck during the final edit of an article I was about to submit for publication: I needed a synonym, and my brain didn’t come up with a good one.

These days help is only a click away.

A new kind of thesaurus has arrived — a visual one. Type in your first word, and magically an array of synonyms appears around the original word, branching out to the most obvious and on to the more obscure. In an instant, I found the perfect synonym.

Bookmark in your browser: Visual Thesaurus.

For those who know about “widgets,” one can even embed a visual thesaurus on one’s Google Homepage. I’ve done that, and everytime I do a Google search, I’m treated to a new word and its visual array of synonyms. Or I can go to that homepage and type in any word I choose to help me find the synonym I need.
