PR Tips for Writers

The wonders of the internet have brought me in touch with Barbara Rozgonyi and her blog Wired PR Works.  It’s a valuable contact, and I’d like to pass along a couple observations.

Writers — yes, we too — need to be concerned about our own PR.  Barbara’s blog offers some help.  For example, there’s perhaps no better New Year’s read than her blog post On-Pitch PR:  Attracting and Romancing the Media.  This post passes on a number of very down-to-earth, easily achieveable steps to take this coming year to lay the foundation for effective public relations.  She wisely emphasizes building up local contacts and networks.  It’s something all serious writers should do.

When you visit her blog, I suggest that you “claim your complimentary Power PR Secrets Guide.”  You will receive a double bonus:  you can sign up for the free email newsletter, and you will receive by return email a link to the complimentary Guide, which I found useful.  Another little hint for writers who post writings on the internet:  notice that the page holding the Guide is protected by COPYSCAPE.  This is a useful facility, offering a modicum of protection against people that steal articles to repost on their article farms, in an effort to attract traffic that will click on ads.  You can learn about this free anti-plagarism service HERE.  [I just did a quick scan for my blog to see if it’s been plagarized and am relieved to see I’ve had no problems.  I still need to post the COPYSCAPE banner on my blog though.]

When I visit new blogs, I almost always check the ABOUT page to learn more about the person behind the blog.  Barbara’s ABOUT page is particularly interesting.  Not only does one learn about an expanding and expansive career as an at-home-mom, but one will discover some lesser known byways for writers and communicators.  Teleseminars, for example, are a new and compelling mode of delivery.  I myself listen in on many, mostly those offered by Steve Harrison, about whom I may write one of these days.  Barbara points to the how-to seminar she attended to learn about such seminars, and now she does them herself.  Continue to poke around her site and you’ll learn a lot more.

What a lovely last day of 2007 gift! Thanks so much for the review of both the blog and ezine resources. The media post you mention was written at a reader’s request. As with most of my work, I have clients and readers to thank for the assignment, the motivation and the inspiration.
Cheers to the start of an exciting New Year tomorrow!
Barbara
