A Tip of the Hat: Our Community of Commenters

Blogs are richer when they evolve into communities. Active discussions among writers with different perspectives and experience enrich and clarify the blog’s content. This action takes place within the COMMENTS to individual posts. It is the COMMENTER that truly brings a blog to life. Thanks to those readers who contributed to discussions this month.  [And thanks to Jeanne Dininni at Writer’s Notes for providing a model for this post.]

Many of the commenters maintain blogs of their own. Click on the links to take a look — or when reading a comment, click on the writer’s name if it is underlined.

Thanks, Tom!

I appreciate the link to Writer’s Notes, as well as your offer of credit for the model you’ve used for this link post. This model was, however, actually passed on to me several months ago by still another blogger, as is so often the case in the blogosphere. Isn’t that what makes it such a vital and interesting place? We learn from one another and then we pass along what we’ve learned to other bloggers, who then do the same.

I do think these link posts which recognize our commenters are a tremendous idea, though–which is why I’ve been writing them on the first of each month for the past several months. Thanks for joining this growing tradition among bloggers!

Although I was new to blogging a month ago, I am already beginning to feel the “community” I’ve heard so much about. What amazes me the most so far is the willingness to share: information, credit, warnings, opportunities, encouragement… It has been a very nice surprise to find online!

Happy New Year Tom!

I’d also like to point out that a lot must be said of the blogger who can form a community. The level of attention you pay to me, as one of your commentators, has always been unexpectedly warm and encouraging. It goes above and beyond the value of your articles, and that’s a feat hard to accomplish.

Cheers to you!
