News for Writers: Amazon Buys Audible

In a sign that audio books do indeed have a good future, Amazon has announced its purchase of Audible, an online provider of downloadable audio books.  Audible’s technology allows for books to be downloaded into iPods and other portable players.  This is a distribution channel that authors should keep in mind.

Details of the purchase are available at CNET’s Webware 2.0 website.

I’m always looking for ways to make my jogging time go by faster, and audio books fill a need for me. But is this good news–or not–for writers? Does it depend on your contract? Time will tell.

Even though my writing has had a lull, I am still inching (micrometering?) closer to the day when I will publish my novel. For all the work I’ve done to greenify my life, I keep coming back to the thought, “Wait, you’re going to cut down a bunch of trees to make my book?”

I like that audio books are becoming more accepted.

I always look for this type of posts. This is really advantageous information. It is helpful as we can directly download the content in to ipods or other data storage devices.
