A Walk into Travel Journalism

Have you ever dreamed of becoming a travel journalist — and making some money while you are at it?  Well, now there’s a new route into this exciting field.

Website AudioSnacks has come up with a novel concept:  downloadable illustrated mp3 “walking tours” of places famous and unfamiliar.  To stock its growing catalog, AudioSnacks invites users to create such a tour, determine a price for it and upload it for inclusion at the website.

Here’s a chance for aspiring travel journalists to get some practice, establish a portfolio and earn some money too.  Production tools are plentiful and often free.  All you need to do is to create a map of your walking tour, record your commentary and include digital photos for each stop along the tour.  To show you just how easy it is, AudioSnacks provides producers a step-by-step production guide.

Tourists then pay for the tour at the AudioSnacks website — prices seem to range from $10-12 with a few free tours to promote interest –download tours of their choice, install them on their iPods and finally take the tour — with YOU as their guide.

I learned about AudioSnacks from Absolutely Frank, one of my favorite websites/newsletters.  I’ve subscribed to the email version of his posts and daily learn about at least one new program or website.
