I attended one workshop that was extremely disappointing. It didn't even address the topic of the workshop. And I learned that the panel was told that there was no need to prepare anything in advance. On the other hand, I attended a class on writing about food and found it quite informative and useful. And the video on blogging is excellent as an introduction to someone new to that game. Like anything, it depends on the teacher or moderator.
