A few days ago, I mentioned that I was enhancing this blog with some community-building features.  It seems time to do so, as last month the blog attracted over 3600 unique visitors and 82 subscribers by email and RSS feed.

Almost immediately, the importance of community has become apparent.  If you take a look at the COMMENTS to the post about the AlphaSmart NEO, you will notice that as I write this there are already two comments, with perhaps more coming.  Also notice that the names of these first two commenters are underlined.  That means you can click on the name and go to that person’s blog or website.

I’ve done just that, of course, to get some feel for who is reading this blog.  I’m glad I did, as both blogs are informative and well-done, each featuring a writer pursuing a passion.

I even uncovered a post that I thought would be fun to share with everyone here, a post about an unusual book collection of To-Do Lists.  From this post, we learn that something as mundane as a To-Do List can lead to a published book — and an associated blog with some intriguing and fun video. Take a look and reflect for a moment about how writing, blogs and books all weave together to create a synergy that propels both writer and reader forward.  This To-Do List blog also reminds us that perhaps we should ourselves be keeping a To-Do List, if we are not already doing so.  As forewarning, I intend to write a series of posts early next year that builds upon this topic, so stay tuned.  You may also want to take a look at Mac’s post about Associated Content, which may open up yet another new door for you.

Notice also that commenters Mac and MJ are both blogging using the free Blogger facility.  I first got my blogging feet wet with an exercise using Blogger, and once I realized how easy it is technically [the writing itself is another matter], I moved on to create Becoming A Writer Seriously.  I’m amazed, looking at Mac’s and MJ’s blogs, just how far that free facility has come.  Both blogs look magnificent, and the content is very good as well.  You non-blogging writers out there, you might take some inspiration here.  From either of these blogs, look at the top right of the screen and find the Create A Blog link.  Just click it and start your own!
