Hi – I'm a 'new novelist' myself and I've been using NewNovelist2 (apparently a significant upgrade on version 1). The program is still not without its faults but can be helpful for those starting out who are in a bit of a mess (as I was) with all their ideas and notes. I find the best aspects of it are the structural tools. The writing tools are nice to have but you can get better help elsewhere online.

Benjamin, I’ve only played around with NewNovelist a little bit, just to get acquainted with its basics. It looked pretty good to me. Not being a novelist myself [i write only non-fiction, so far], I don’t know quite how to evaluate all of the writer’s aids within the program, geared specifically to novelists. I would assume that new novelists would find the help extremely useful, while some experienced novelists might not use the aids at all.

Regarding the Mac, look at my Table of Contents and click on the software for Mac’s item. Not a whole lot there, but I do review a special issue of an online magazine regarding the Mac, which had an entire issue devoted to writers. You might find some leads there.

I was interested in NewNovelist a couple of years ago, and everything looked good… until I noticed it’s Windows-only. No Mac version. If there’s a similar program for the Mac, I’d love to hear more about it.

Tom, have you used NewNovelist as your main tool in any novel-writing projects? How did you feel about it?
