If you followed my advice of a couple posts ago — you do follow it ALWAYS, dont you? — you will already know the content of this post.

The Writer’s Technology Companion has gotten off to a soaring start. Drawing from his vast archive at the very successful Lifehack.org, his original, long-running blog, Dustin offers up a list of recommended apps, writer’s communities/blogs and a host of links to posts. Of course, to read it all, you have to follow the link from one blog to the other, a well-proven strategy of cross-fertilization.

If you are the type to notice such things, you’ll see that Lifehack, with its broad coverage of techniques to forge a rich life, has a subscribed readership of over 50,000 regular readers. To illustrate the power of such readership, my blog has just experienced a major spike in the number of visitors today, rising from the usual 200-300 to almost 600, clearly a result of the link back here that Dustin included in his major post there [thanks, Dustin -- by the way, my poor little server went down from the surge!]. So, now in a return of the favor, surge on over to both of Dustin’s blogs, starting with The Writer’s Technology Companion, which you will definitely want to bookmark of subscribe to, and then on to Lifehack, which will probably appeal to you too.

Sorry if the link brought you any trouble — that’s the downside of promoting a site you like from a platform as big as Lifehack.org. Just to clarify one thing: Lifehack.org isn’t really “my site”, although I am the primary editor and post more often than anyone else. The site was founded by and belongs to Leon Ho, and he and our crew of great writers have built it up to what it is today. There are nearly 30 semi-regular contributors, 2 twice-weekly writers, and myself. All of them deserve credit for building the site and it’s audience!

(But really? It’s just me, writing under 25 different names. I’m *that* productive!)

(OK, not really — but wouldn’t it be a great advertisement for Lifehack.org if it were true?!)

Thanks for the reverse cross-fertilizing backwards pay-it-forward link love. I’m glad to say WTC is off to a great start, thanks to you and other writers sending readers my way.

  • Thanks, Dustin, for the clarification re “ownership” of Lifehack. I’ve been wondering about that for the longest time.

Regarding readership, I’ve been quite happy to see my own readership reach the 4000-5000 unique visitors a month level after its first year. But I know that there is a much bigger potential audience out there. Cross-fertilization, of course, will be the key. I’m glad to see someone with your experience and knowledge entering the arena. I hope that we, and some other like-minded bloggers, can build a strongly-linked community that will serve as a major online resource.

By the way, my server administrator got my blog back online almost immediately after I brought the problem to his attention. Keep sending readers over — we’ll deal with it!

  • No, the proof is not in the pudding.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Minimal literacy would seem to be a prerequisite for those talking about writing. But maybe that’s just me.
