The vigilant folks at SoftMaker tracked down my post about its office suite and kindly sent in some informative comments, which I am pasting below. By the way, I decided to pay full freight for the SoftMaker version of the suite, rather than accept the discount offered by reseller Ashampoo. In future, I’ll add my future comments about this software in the COMMENTS under the original post.

Here’s the SoftMaker information — hey, and thanks to forwarding it so promptly:

Tom:

First of all, thank you very much for your review of TextMaker at http://becoming-a-writer-seriously.com/2008/05/14/textmaker-why-it-excites-me/ — your support is much appreciated.

You mentioned a couple of things in that article on which I’d like to comment:

- Hyphenation can be switched off. It’s a paragraph attribute, so it’s in Format/Paragraph. To switch it off for the whole document, edit the paragraph style “Normal” with Format/Paragraph Style and set hyphenation there to “None”. To switch it off everywhere, make that change to your document template (normally Normal.tmv).

In principle, this is the same method as for changing your default font described here: http://softmaker.com/english/tipstm_en.htm

- Endnotes are available. The only limitation, if you will, is that a document may contain _either_ footnotes _or_ endnotes. To switch, go to Insert/Footnote/Options, set the position, OK, Close.

- The installer indeed doesn’t put application icons on the desktop, but it does install SMASH, our little system tray utility that makes starting the apps just as quick — and the tray will not be covered by other application windows.

Let me know if you need to know anything else about SoftMaker Office and, again, thank you for your support.

Best regards,

Martin Kotulla
