NOTE:  The following is a press release which I thought important enough for writers that I’m passing it on in its entirity.

Nov 12, 2008 – DUBLIN, Ireland – MMC Software today announced the launch of FortyChapters.com – the first online tool developed to help would-be writers draft their first novel.

“With FortyChapters, it’s easy to write a book whenever it suits you, at home or on your lunch break at work, even on holiday,” said Mark Anderson, lead developer and technical director, “The site walks you through the process one step at a step – first characters, then acts and chapters. You can start and stop whenever suits, and when you login, always be brought back to where you left off.”

For many, the process of beginning to write, of looking at the blank page can be daunting. FortyChapters aims to ease that pain by guiding the aspiring writer in small increments towards the end goal of a finished professional manuscript. Presented entirely online, the software is designed to let the user write whenever they find the time – time that can be hard to find otherwise.

Helpful guides lead the user through the first stages of planning a book. Tips and advice have been included on character generation and plot devices.

Designed to let the eager first time authors try the software before they must commit, FortyChapters comes as a 30 day no-obligation trial. This is followed by a monthly subscription of $10 that can be cancelled at any time. When the user can finished writing their book, the manuscript can be exported in a range of formats suitable for sending to publishers and literary agents.

At all times, the manuscripts of users are kept private and secure.

For a free, thirty-day trial of FortyChapters, please go to www.fortychapters.com

I wonder what the advantage is over using one of the many online solutions like zoho, thinkfree or even google docs.

Debra, Forty Chapters is a bit like Chapter by Chapter [coupled with a word
processor], but online. The ones you mention are, of course, more like
    standard word processors.

Thanks for republishing our press release Tom.

Mark, pleased to pass on word about your new product. While I'm not a
novelist myself, I'm intrigued with what you are offering. It will
certainly be of interest to my many of my readers.

QUESTION: why limit your facility to novels? Why not expand it to cover
    any book-length project?
