If you ever needed a stimulus to keep on writing, you simply must take a look at Write or Die.  It’s a brand new, online word processor that invites one to set a time limit and a word count objective.  Once the writing begins, there’s an unseen watchman keeping tabs on your progress.  If you falter, amazing things start to happen, all pushing you back to your writing.  If you really slow down, the worst of all possible punishments begins:  the word processor starts backtracking, deleting one word after another until you start writing again.  Talk about an incentive to continue writing!

You can see this word processor in action in a live video demo.  Just look in the sidebar to the right, scroll down to VIDEO FOR WRITERS and click on the screens.  The demo will be available there for a few days only.  If you miss it, you can still see it at my VIDEO FOR WRITERS online collection.

Of course, you can also just go straight to the Write or Die site, developed by one Dr. Wicked.  He’s just launched a newsletter as well.  Frankly, I think this site is one of the most creative solutions I’ve ever come across for writers.

I did a quick 3-minute test drive, with a target of 50 words, just to see how the system works.  Once you set your target and hit the WRITE button, a blank screen pops up for your writing tablet.  Once you’ve done writing, you click the DONE button on the top right.  Suddenly you are taken to a results page, including a copy of what you have written.  If you want to keep it, you must save it to your clipboard and paste it into another word processor, through which you can save the writing to your hard drive.

Give it try.  At the very least, you’ll get a chuckle.  And you might even write your next chapter.
