Whenever I hear eloquent words, well delivered, I am moved.  I don’t even have to agree with the sentiments expressed to experience this feeling.   I respect anyone who can craft words artfully and can find ways to share them.  Writers are, in my view, custodians of culture.  We have a real responsibility.  Obama is deeply aware of this.

What makes Obama a “modern-day” role model is his mastery of the new social media to build community.  As if to prove the point once again, at the stroke of noon today, at the very moment he officially became President, the official White House website changed.  Not a second wasted.

A glance at the White House website confirms that Obama is committed to continue his community building.  He’s again tapping the new social media to interact with his “audience.

There’s a lesson there for writers.  Words are not enough.  Writers, at least those who take their work seriously, must build a community behind those words.  And today, we have the tools to do so.

One ingenious and almost immediate result of Obama’s inaugural speech was a visual presentation of its keywords.
