A couple of weeks ago, I blogged about WIRED editor Chris Anderson and his thesis that we are entering an “economy of the free.”
Today I discovered an excellent video on ZDnet by Anderson, where he explained how to leverage your “free” product so that you can earn downstream with sale of premium items or content. It’s a concept that may be valuable to writers. WATCH THE VIDEO. [Unfortunately, I cannot grab it for my VIDEO FOR WRITERS collection, as ZDnet wants the traffic on its own site.]
QUESTION: what are your strategies for dealing with all the competition from free content, books, news sources, advice, etc? Leave your comments below.

The economy of the free is making my head burst – we're trying to wrap our heads around what we can offer for free, that has value, that connects to product. It's the new direction that everyone must address in some way. Those who don't may be left behind.
