Over the past year, I’ve seen so much written for writers about Print-on-Demand and promotion via the social media. Seldom mentioned is the actual design process of one’s book. That task too is well within our grasp these days.
Of course, the easy way is to format one’s manuscript in Word and convert it into PDF format. The results are useable, of course, but are normally very dull looking.
Adobe’s InDesign software offers a powerful publishing platform. It’s the industry standard. And, with a little effort, writers can become proficient enough to design their own book, saving hundred’s of dollars. This video gives a positive look at someone who’s gotten into InDesign as a free-lancer. Learning InDesign may be a very useful complementary skill for writers struggling to make a living.
NOTE: I’m posting this video directly into my blog via Vodpod. While I normally place the video’s in the sidebar, I thought I’d experiment with the new post-to-blog feature. Writers with blogs may want to look into this facility: www.vodpod.com, and its Firefox extension.
