Just announced hours ago, Amazon reveals that for the first time e-books have outsold hardcover books at its online store. It’s big news, and all the major news outlets seem to be jumping on it.

The increase appears to be partially fueled by the recent significant price reduction in the Kindle Readers, whose sales tripled since the price break.

For writers, this development simply adds to the message that ANY ONE can get published and gain access to a large market. The key is marketing, making potential readers aware that one’s book is worth a look.

Again, I point blog readers to subscribe to Social Media Examiner, which has emerged has the best resource for ideas about harnessing the social media to build one’s fan base.

Making its debut on 12 October, Social Media Examiner is new blog — it calls itself an “online magazine” — that may become a major source of marketing advice for writers. Founded by writer and blogger Michael Stelzner, this venture will certainly contain lots of nuggets specifically for writers, along with all the general advice for business people and marketers wishing to harness the social media.

The blog opened its doors already with a stock of very useful articles, by a strong team of professionals. This blog will focus primarily on the major social media, from a marketing point of view, including LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.

Becoming A Writer Seriously has over the past 3 years been examining the emerging new paradigm for writers, a revolution comparable to that spawned by the Gutenberg press. Now anyone can get published. Anyone can reach tens of thousands of potential readers. All at virtually no cost. But to do so requires a new set of skills, a new way of thinking about one’s writing career. I foresee Social Media Examiner becoming a major tool for writers who wish to equip themselves for this new world.

I’ve been following Examiner founder Michael Stelzner for several years now, via his blog Writing White Papers. His blog takes a decided slant toward copywriting and business writing — but I often find ideas and information there that’s useful even to novelists, journalists, essayists and the rest of us writers. His blog has become recognized as one of the very top blogs for writers, an honor well-deserved. With this new venture, I think Stelzner and his professional team will have even more important information to share with us.
